Do You Know What To Do When..?
In Ghana, a lot of people loose their lives through road accidents daily. When these accidents happen, the first individuals to respond are good samaritans near by. Unfortunately, most of them, especially those outside the health profession, have no awareness and skill about first aid techniques such as Stopping the bleed, performing CPR, choking intervention, proper positioning and many more. The negative outcome is that, people needlessly die due to lack of proper first aid intervention which has proven to increase the chance of survival.
Furthermore, emergency response systems in the country are limited and or fragmented. Sick people are mostly stabilized and transported by the community or family members, who most of the time don't know how to handle these emergency situations appropriately. The result is most people with simple conditions end up with more complications by the time they get to the hospital.
Even though some communities have seen improvement in the delivery of emergency call services over the years, a big chunk of the country still remain under resourced. AFriHeP Ghana in collaboration with local and international organizations have recognized this area of concern and has put programs in place to approach this problem. The name of our program is "EVERYONE IS AN EMERGENCY RESPONDER" until health professionals arrive. One of our objectives is therefore to train people to attend to emergency situations in an informed way. We believe this will go a long way to save a lot of Ghanaian lives.
